EMBO Molecular Neurobiology Workshop at Fodele Beach & Water Park Holiday Resort

Fodele Beach & Water Park Holiday Resort hosts an event of significance this week. Between May 8 and 12, the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) organizes an event that brings together experts from the fields of biology, biophysics, and neurobiology.

The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) workshop is the most important event of its kind held on Crete. Speakers include outstanding personalities in their respective fields, like Brian Kobilka from the Stanford University (USA), Rachelle Gaudet and Xiaowei Zhuang from Harvard (USA), Nieng Yan from China’s Tsinghua University, Yvonne Jones from Oxford (UK), Larry Shapiro from Columbia (USA), and many others.

The EMBO Molecular Neurobiology event will focus on “on processes that happen at or close to the cell membrane, where information is transduced by sophisticated mechanisms such as receptor-ligand interactions and channel properties.”

According to Rob Meijers, Group Leader at EMBL, “the EMBO sponsored Workshop on Molecular Neuroscience is aiming to bring experts in structural biology and fluorescent microscopy together with neuroscientists interested to use these techniques to answer fundamental questions in neuronal circuit formation.” The number of participants to the events is limited to 120 to ensure an intimate environment where experts can connect and exchange valuable ideas. This is also an opportunity for participants to meet some of the world experts on GPCR signaling, axon guidance, super-resolution microscopy, and more. Some of the key topics include:

  • Local microtubule cues specify presynaptic cargo delivery at en passant synapses presented by Pedro Guedes-Dias
  • Super-resolution imaging of brain extracellular space by Valentin Naegerl
  • Structural Insights into GABAA Receptor Gating Mechanisms by Radu Aricescu
  • Cell wrestling and cortex wrinkling – guidance mechanisms during neural development with Ruediger Klein
  • Molecular Mechanisms of Neurite Branching and Central Synapse Formation by Dietmar Schmucker
  • Neuronal cell shape formation controlled by cytoskeleton by Naoko Mizuno

The list goes on and you can find the full programme on the official website of the event.
